Description
Iron Silicate is a synthetic mineral produced from copper refineries as a slag and then cooled immediately in water to form a glass type substance. Iron Silicate is generally used as an expendable abrasive for cleaning steel structures.
Our brand of iron silicate is one of our most popular products and it is the abrasive of choice for many shot blasting companies across the UK. It is a good general purpose abrasive and can be used on many surfaces to remove a variety of substrates.
Example – Keyblast med would be used for removing rust and paint of metal, such as gates, motor vehicles (not body panels see aluminium silicate). Drop down to fine grade for less heavily soiled materials and materials that are not too thick, or brick work.
The blasting nozzle ideally needs to be 3x the size of the largest particle of grit for the abrasive to flow freely.
